Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is a massive game in game form | Video games

Of course, the shallow narrative here is just the skeleton upon which explosive action sequences can be hung, some of which shred realism in a way that would make any blockbuster filmmaker think twice. The biggest point is that games like "Call of Duty" can get away with things that even the most famous movies can't, and it's not just because of the budget. A caravan mission-like sequence in this game - where you have to jump from one vehicle to another to continue chasing a runaway cartel, leaving absolute carnage in your wake - would destroy all the disbelief required to enjoy an action movie. But these games have been pushing "bigger, faster, more" with each installment. They thrive on chaos.

In fact, the game falters more when you undo that chaotic energy. There are a few stealth missions that are useless by design. People don't play Call of Duty to sneak around in search of items to create a tool to open a locked door (and bringing that mechanic back to the height of the game is a real mistake). And the task in which you're sneaking through a cartel's house feels like half baked, as if the developers were just buying time before they could blow something up again. I also noticed more glitches than usual including enemies who kind of stood up and waited for me to shoot them. However, when the game gets too explosive, it's hard not to get carried away by its incredible momentum.
