Lionsgate sets a 2023 release date for the horror-comedy


Lionsgate has successfully acquired the theatrical distribution rights to MRC's horror comedy blackness. The film had its world premiere last September at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.

The studio has set the release date for the upcoming theatrical release of blacknessStarring Antoinette Robertson and Jermaine Fowler. The movie is scheduled to premiere in theaters on the Juneteenth weekend, June 16, 2023.

blackness Directed and produced by Tim Story (ride alongAnd the Think like a man) from a screenplay co-written by Tracy Oliver and Dewayne Perkins. The film stars Antoinette Robertson, Dwayne Perkins, Cinqua Walls, Grace Byers, X May, Melvyn Gregg, Jermaine Fowler, Yvonne Orji, and Jay Farrow.

"The horror-comedy is about a group of black friends who meet again for the Juneteenth weekend only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a crooked killer," the synopsis reads. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize that this is no ordinary a** in the 'game.'
