The Academy Awards will feature all 23 categories next year

Oscar Academy

Hooray for Hollywood! The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this week that it will reinstate eight categories that were excluded from last year's Oscars telecast.

in a permitBill Kramer, CEO of AMPAS said, “I can confirm that all categories will be included on live television… We are committed to putting on a show that celebrates the crafts, the arts, the sciences, and the collaborative nature of filmmaking. This is very much the mission of the Academy, and I very much hope that we can put on a show that celebrates all components of filmmaking in such a way Entertaining and engaging.”

The Academy Awards had 24 categories for a number of years, until it combined the awards for Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing at the 93rd Academy Awards (the winner, fittingly, was Metal sound).

Last year, eight or more were selected from a third of the categories - including Best Original Score, Best Film Editing and all three short films written off from television broadcasts. This move was partly intended to increase viewership and shorten the show. However, the 94th Academy Awards ended up running 3 hours and 40 minutes long. That's comfortable compared to the 4 hours, 23 minutes that set the record back in 2002, but still shows that the Academy missed the mark. It also showed disregard for art that fell into those categories, despite their speeches being presented throughout the show.

In terms of viewership, this concert was one of the least watched in history. There was a high at one point in the show, but us I can't imagine why...

The Oscars will be broadcast on ABC March 12, 2023. Jimmy Kimmel He will return as host for the third time.

How do you feel about the Academy bringing the eight classes back to broadcast television? Will the show improve? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
