"Twister" sequel finds a way out

Quick: what would you call a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster movie Cyclone?

Tornadoesghost.

Even though the original film is 25 years old, it's still a nostalgic favorite from the period - so much so that Amblin and Universal are now looking to do a sequel even though one of the original film's stars, Bill Paxton, has since passed away. In October, we first heard about this dubbed project TornadoesBased on a text by Mark L Smithclerk yield.

Consequently Limitthe project continues to move forward with Amblin and Universal now in "early talks" with the director Lee Isaac Chung to direct the movie. Chung Ho is a talented director. behind a recent arthouse hit minarets, for which she was nominated for six Academy Awards and won Best Supporting Actress. It was a poignant story about a Korean immigrant family who started a farm in rural America in the 1980s — in other words, very different from Cyclone.

Per Deadline, here's a summary of the plot as it's known for now:.

At the time, sources said the hope was to bring Twister star Helen Hunt back again in a drama centering on the daughter she has with the character played by the late Bill Paxton, who catches her parents' storm-chasing bug.

The character dynamics make a lot of sense — Hunt was a storm chaser in her youth and now she can play the more anxious parent who wants her daughter to be on guard. This is the kind of thing a good heirloom is made of. Chung is a surprisingly interesting and interesting choice for the movie, but hey; Tornadoes It revolves around complex family dynamics! And yes, hurricanes. But also complex family dynamics!
