As you've seen on my own Instagram Recently, some big changes are underway in the basement! I First announced basement design project a year ago. Although it took longer than initially expected, I'm really excited that progress is happening now.
To keep you all in the loop, today I'm sharing with you exactly what's going on with my basement design project now and what happens next.
What's going on with a basement design project
A lot is going on in the cellar now. The bulk of the updates are in the family room, with some updates also happening in the adjoining wine room. My main goal for this project is to make my basement look brighter and less orange (thanks to the orange tones in the terracotta floors).
The biggest change is that everything in these areas is being painted - the walls, the woodwork, the ceiling. The fireplace has also been primed for plaster application and the popcorn on the ceiling has been removed! In the wine room (shown below), we plan to do a light wash over the brick and keep the wood in this space unpainted for the time being. While these updates aren't entirely out yet, the space already looks very different.
Why are we doing this drawing project now
throughout the process Basement fireplace update In the summer and fall, I kept thinking of expanding the project to include the rest of the family room downstairs. In the end, I realized it would make more logistical sense (and a little less cost in the long run) to hire someone to work on the stove project And the Basement painting project at the same time instead of splitting the project schedule.
What happens next with a basement design project
The bulk of this painting project will be completed by the end of December. Our painter has limited time in his schedule to work on this project, so we won't be able to finish a paint job entire The basement is in one fell swoop, but the family room space will often be completed.
Once the painting is done, I want to add some new tapestries and rugs to the family room. I've been working on product selections this month and hope to order before the end of the year. I also plan to add more contrast in the lighting to soften the "spotlights" effect of the can lights.
Stay tuned for more!
