7News reported that MGPD investigator Diana Gorg said Thursday night that police were still working at the scene, which included "multiple shots... multiple cases," where four victims were reportedly airlifted to a local trauma center and four others transported themselves to a hospital. Witnesses told police that gunfire broke out during the incident in Montana shooting Music video out of The Licking.
A witness said they had come to watch the Montana video production, in which a passer-by allegedly stole his watch, keys, and wallet. "[He asked to] "Call his mom and see if we can get spare car keys and make sure, you know, he's okay," said witness Syed Mogul, a local rapper, "and then the gunshots rang out." “No less than 13, 14, 15 shots. It was so fast, it looked like an assault rifle.”
It was not clear at the time of publication whether someone fired into the crowd or if there was an exchange of gunfire, according to 7News. “I took off running, and I was looking back, but I was like, ‘You know what? Let me just duck first,’” Mogul said, “and then people started asking me, you know, ‘Can you help me? There was nothing you could do about it when you were shot."
NBC6 Police said the altercation that started in a different location eventually ended at the restaurant, where New Orleans rapper Rob 49 was reportedly among the victims.
It was not clear at press time where Montana was during the shooting, though it appears he was unharmed in the incident. A Montana spokesperson could not be reached for comment at the time of reporting, and the Miami-Dade Police Public Information Officer did not respond with a request for an update on the investigation at the time of reporting. Mogul also shared a video with a local NBC affiliate that he said showed Montana, in a red T-shirt, sitting in the back seat of a car and looking at some wardrobe choices, reportedly filmed just before the shooting.
Montana just dropped the latest installment in the long-running Coke Boys series, Coca Boys 6, on Friday morning (January 6), featuring guest spots from A$AP Rocky, Benny the Butcher, Kodak Black, Max B, King Combs, Est Gee, Jeremih, and more. The rapper promoted the mixtape Thursday morning at the Instagram and Twitter, but he did not appear to have commented on the shooting incident on his social media at the time of publication.
