Walk into any museum or gallery and you'll see a hard-working co-star who gets no billing. He is not the curator or the lecturer, nor is the lighting or planning. (Those guys are important though.) This co-star is...the paint on the back walls. The colors—whether it's a neutral gray, a dyed emerald, or a powdery steel blue (a pigment I felt in the Nelson-Atkins Museum)—is an art in itself. It was meticulously selected by a Color expertthese paints swelled Artwork on the walls. They're proof of just how powerful paint can be, which is what I thought of when I compiled the paint color trends for 2023. Paint color transforms the energy of a space.
For 2023, experts see an earthy rainbow. Deep sapphire blue, muted green, and an ethereal shade are all in the outlook. These seven paint color trends are set to be big in 2023
Each of these shades irrevocably amplifies the room. It's magic - the greatest interior design trick in history.

No. 1: Forest Green
“In 2023, we will continue to see more earthy tones in paint colors and textiles,” says Meredith Owen. Meredith Owen Interiors—This includes jungle forests. This color evokes the calming wisdom of nature. "Creating spaces in dark, earthy tones will really make for some stunning rooms—and I'm set!"
better forFeatured walls and trim. As Owen says, "Don't be afraid to paint your kitchen cabinets or trim a dark green."
No. 2: Greige
It's back: the gorgeous color that evokes feelings of cloudy skies. Greige was seen in 2022, decorating walls and cabinets, but he'll be going strong in 2023, the interior designer and TV personality believes. Briggan Jane, which he describes as a chalk-like color that falls between gray and beige. “It's a perfect wall color when you want to bring tones of your hardwood inside. It provides such subtle depth and warmth to interior spaces.” “I see it in a lot of interior projects. I think it will be the new white for next year.”
better for: living room, dining room, and (really!) everywhere. Because of its complementary qualities, green is a chameleon. "Natural tones are very versatile and soothing, and the appearance of 'gray' will completely mute color palettes in a way that will not only positively affect us, but also the emotions and the mind," says Jane. "I love that it works well with furniture, but it can also work as an updated wood stain if you're trying to get away from darker colors."
#3: dark blue
Want to create a dramatic atmosphere? Christina Lehman C. Lyman Home She leans toward dark blues, which she predicts will be a hit in 2023. "I love deep blue for a cool, modern look," says the designer, who suggests mixing navy with warm-toned décor accessories.
better for: powdery bathroom, small desk, and cozy family room. If you love navy blue and want to go a little more subtle, Lehman says to add drama to the dining room.
#4: Eggplant
We call it eggplant. He called it eggplant. I call it one of the best color predictions of 2023. This gorgeous, rich purple is a pick by designer Laura Pankonien—and it's set to add serious design drama.
better for: powder room. Pankunen says this rich, deep hue creates a "special moment" when used to color a vanity.
No. 5: muted green
We've seen a lot of buzz about 'dusty' green in 2022, which looks to continue into next year. Tanya Smith Shiflett Unique kitchens and bathrooms He sees silent vegetables taking over in different rooms. The dye quality of forest greens varies, dull (or dusty) greens are soft, neutral and timeless.
better for: kitchen, bathroom and home library.
No. 6: Natural tan
Laura Pankonien is also embracing natural browns and beiges for 2023. One could argue that tan has always had a place on the interior design color list, but it rarely gets a slot on the waiting list or the well-liked list, which is a pity. Pankonien embraces this shade for how it magnifies compositions and details around it. "It's gorgeous with large-veined arabescato marble, unpolished brass, and black accents," she adds. Simply amazing.
better for: bathroom or kitchen. "We love to mix a tan contour cabinet with a white oak island," says Pankunen.
No. 7: Moody Brown
The big surprise...and it's beautiful. Well x design Founder and designer Lauren Sullivan says warm, saturated earthy tones will have a special place in homes this year — and one of her favorites is a moody brown. Classically overlooked, brown is a neutral with staying power. Sullivan believes the color adds a "comfortable, essential appeal."
better for: comfortable bedroom or study.
