Jean Godfrey Jun

If it's clean and vaguely associated with beauty, I've tried it—or am in the process of doing so. And if I'm trying a beauty product, home (where I've worked since the start of the pandemic) is where that happens. Every day, boxes of beauty products arrive in the mail—kind of like getting a gift and kind of like getting a pile of work.

What's on my kitchen island

I unwrap and initially edit through all the new ones on a table in my kitchen. But I also keep a few beauty essentials in the kitchen—I'm always in there, so why not moisturize? This is what I cram into my centerpiece with spoons and spoons.

1

In the morning, I put my vitamin C on (see below), then run downstairs to make coffee. Once the vitamin C gets really immersed in doing its thing, that is Amazing treatment cream next to.

2

After five or ten minutes of that, I might need an extra layer of moisture (I'm 58), in which case I hit this Incredible oil By Annee de Mamiel. They make a completely new oil designed for each season, and you have to try this oil to understand how wonderful it is.

3

I am obsessed with lip balm. I keep the new pinky brown from the goop Triple lip balm In the kitchen - it's enough that I never need a mirror.

What's in My Office

My office is just a desk next to a very comfortable chair in the living room. People on Zoom or Teams are always saying, "Oh, I love your background," and the ficus tree often looks dead when you bought the house but has had too little water and sun. Plants make the space feel alive. New York in winter is really gloomy - having plants inside makes me live with some California vibes. I'm always sitting there in my grandmother's favorite chair (people make fun of it until they sit in it, and then they understand), writing, or editing, or having meetings. I also test a lot of beauty products out there. But other than what I'm testing for, I keep a few basics on hand.

1

You know those meetings where everyone turns off their cameras? My favorite thing: I'm obsessed with this new, very cool laser called the LYMA. You just pat it on the crease, wherever it is, for three minutes. And so you get to be fully involved in your meeting, but at the same time you're doing a LYMA, which, when you see the before and after, is crazy — especially the meeting that shows results on one's knees.

2

Before any encounter, I slather a little rose water from Kosas on my lips—then I dab a little on my lips on the apples of my cheeks. Back in our office days, we (the entire goop NYC team) would use this trick and then would always ask each other, “Wait. Did you get your makeup done?”

3

I apply sunscreen in multiple places in my house, but it's especially important in the office, because it's a very sunny place. I wipe it between the backs of my hands after I wash them.

What's in my bathtub

My upstairs bathroom is where the lion's share of beauty research happens. There are a lot of beauty products out there. It's a little crazy, but it is he is my work. I also have all the items of my regular routine in there:

1

I don't cleanse in the morning. I used to have oily skin, so i cleansed all the time. But I don't need that anymore. So the first thing I do — and everyone should do it, whether you're 17 or 87 — is Vitamin C. This vitamin C in particular is made with hydrating hyaluronic acid, and you mix it up when you first get it, so it stays going strong. It makes a noticeable difference in how alive you look. Start using it and after a week or two, someone will say, "What are you doing to your skin?"

And to clear the night. I start by taking off my eye makeup, if I'm wearing it. There are hardly any clean eye makeup removers out there, and this one is not only out there but it's awesome. It's from Grown Alchemist, and it really works. Then I clean. I have been testing this new brand called DAMDAM. I'm also into GOOPGLOW Exfoliating Gel Cleanser; and alternates. The gel cleanser is very gentle, but it also makes me feel like I've gotten everything off my skin.

3

Sometimes I get lost with this essence From Furtuna Skin. It is a nice. In a pinch, it works as a (milder) eye makeup remover, too.

4

I have to test This star For two months before it was released, so I really see the benefits: It helps with all effects of sun damage, from uneven skin tone and rough texture to wrinkles. What's amazing is that it's made with time-release alpha hydroxy acids, so you get an immediate exfoliating benefit, and then, overnight, it works, and works, and works. It is able to go above and beyond without irritating your skin. I smooth it on most nights right before bed.

5

If my skin is particularly dry after Sleeping Milk or if I've just put vitamin C on and need to moisturize, I wait a few minutes, then smooth this on. face creamwhich provides treatment (peptides, ceramides, botanicals) along with hydration.

6

I love to take a shower in the evening, and I really like it "Martini". Twenty minutes in the tub gives me a nice sweat and some time to read.

The sauna that was shed

We (I say we, but I really mean my friend) built this sauna during COVID from some Craigslist bits and a very old, very broken shed. We go there almost every day.

1

The first thing I do before I get to the sauna is hair serum. If you haven't tried it before, you should: You really see a difference in your hair when you use it: It gives me the shine and bounce and also this amazing texture. I put the serum through the lengths of my hair so it kind of protects them while I'm in the heat, and at the same time, I think the heat helps it go deeper.

2

Once I'm in the sauna, I love it dry brush. It's an OG goop product; There is no particular style beyond going to your heart. You just don't want to do it so badly that it hurts — it's all about waking up your skin and feeling great.

3

I keep this balm on hand - it is very convenient sublime, which is very rich - in the sauna. As with the hair serum, I feel like the heat helps seal in the moisture. It leaves your skin so glowing and dewy, you won't believe it.

4

I couldn't be more into this oil body. It smells so good, and sinks in like a miracle. You can get dressed three minutes after you put them on (not that I get dressed in a sauna). Once I am fully hydrated, I sit in the sauna enjoying the aroma and drinking it.

Iced outdoor shower

We improved the sauna by adding a cold shower—it's a garden hose attached to a $40 Amazon rain showerhead—to get the full Wim Hof effect.

1

The key here is Microderm: one for the face and one for the body. You can get physical and chemical exfoliation to soften dead skin for an amazing glow. I let the facial version work for about two minutes while I do the rest of my shower. (Yeah it's cold but I watched this episode of goop lab I am convinced.)

I exfoliate and cleanse everything with this body wash formula. Smells so good, feels so good - it's a full-body tube of happiness.

2

Since the serum has been in my hair for 20 minutes in the sauna ( Huberman Lab The podcast, which goes through all the science, recommends 20 minutes for the first pass in the sauna), now when I wash it off. Exfoliating shampoos often leave your hair feeling dry, but this shampoo is moisturizing. Your hair becomes really soft afterwards - especially with the effects of the serum.

3

This de-frizz conditioner is super nourishing, smells great, rinses out instantly, and i love and love the packaging. It's hard to resist anything the alchemist does, but that's the end.
