Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice of Batman, dies at 66

Over the past thirty years, Batman It has been played by many people, but It seems Batman was defined by one man: Kevin Conroy. He first took on the role of Batman (and Bruce Wayne) in the classic TV series from the '90s Batman: The Animated Series. He continued to play the character sporadically until his death yesterday, after a brief battle with cancer. Conroy was only 66 years old.

His death was announced via Facebook by voice actress Diane Pershing. I worked with Conroe Batman: The Animated Serieswhere she played Poison Ivy. "He was sick for a while but spent a lot of time on negative things, to the delight of all his fans," she wrote.

Juilliard-trained Conroy (who was Robin Williams' roommate while they were both studying there) got his start in theater and television, but the role he's best known for was his version of Batman. He seemed to capture the essence of the character, and then Batman: The Animated Series Over, Conroe has come back to voice the Dark Knight over and over on shows like Justice Squad and movies like Superman/Batman: Public Enemiesand in video games such as games that are very popular Arkham Asylum series. Earlier this year, he voiced the Batman character again in Warner Bros. fighting game MultiVersus.

In this interview, Conroy reveals that he didn't Wants To audition for the role of Batman. He was originally thought to be the best Harvey Bullock, since he was the "biggest character". But then the classically trained actor realized that Batman was, at his core, a tragic Greek character. That was his way of finding his voice.

greeting, Batman: The Animated Series Writer/Producer Paul Dini posted this on Twitter:

In a press release issued by Warner Bros. Mark Hamill - Voice of the Joker on Batman: The Animated Series and the Arkham Asylum Games vs. Conroy - This was to say about working with him:

Kevin was perfect. He was one of my favorite people on the planet, and I loved him as my brother. He really cared about the people around him - his fitness shined through in everything he did. Every time I saw him or talked to him, my spirits were high... It was one of those perfect scenarios where they got exactly the right guy for the exact right part, and the world was better for him. His rhythms, hiss, his tones, his diction - all of which also helped define my performance. He was the perfect partner - it was a complete creative experience. I couldn't do it without him. It will always be my Batman.

Other people will play Batman in animated television series and movies. But for an entire generation - and for many generations to come - Conroe will remain The That character's voice. He was creative and indispensable. We will miss him very much. According to Warner Bros. Press release, he is survived by his wife Von C Williams, his sister Trisha Conroy, and his brother Tom Conroy.
