The Princess Diaries 3 is in development at Disney


New entry in Princess Diaries A movie franchise is in the works at Disney, according to a recent report from Disney Hollywood Reporter.

As per the report, Aadrita Mukerji will write the script for Princess Diaries 3which is slated to be a continuation of the Anne Hathaway-led films rather than a reboot or remake.

The report notes that Hathaway herself does not have a deal to return as of now, but she has said often that she would be open to returning to the franchise should the possibility arise, so fans will have to wait for more information regarding that.

the original Princess Diaries It was released in 2001 and starred Hathaway as an American teenager who later learns that she is the heir to the throne of the European kingdom of Genovia. The movie itself was based on the Meg Cabot novel of the same name and co-starred Julie Andrews. The release was met with near-universal acclaim, propelling Hathaway to superstardom and earning over $165 million at the box office, much more than many thought due to the G rating and general theme.

This movie was also a hit for Disney, bringing in $134 million at the box office, although the reaction to the film was worse than that of its predecessor.
