After a year spent living the digital nomad's dream of hopping from city to city, I can safely (with confidence, gratitude, and enthusiasm) say I've settled down somewhere. This feels like home. While many of us romanticize a mobile lifestyle that we get around on a whim, the reality can be more challenging. But now, in a place I can really describe—I don't get out my bag that can fit a big kid anytime soon—it's time to lean in. Everything is comfortable. And yes, that means stocking up on the best Christmas decorations for apartments.
It can be hard to know what to do with a small space. Sure, you don't want to overwhelm it with too many pieces, but the opposite approach can leave the room looking cluttered. And of course, there's the whole storage component, too — where will you store your fake Christmas tree once January rolls around? There is a lot to solve when shopping for apartment Christmas decor. Fortunately, as someone who lives in an area that barely measures 1,000 square feet, I have a few answers.

Tips for decorating a small space for Christmas
It has always been my dream to decorate the halls in a huge house on an unlimited budget. But over the years, as I moved from apartment to apartment (sometimes larger, sometimes smaller), I've grown to enjoy the ways the lack of space challenges my creativity. I've discovered that I like being forced to make design choices: Instead of saying yes to everything on my Christmas decor wish list, I get to pick what I like the most and what I think will work best in my space.
With that in mind, I came up with a list of tips that supported my search for perfect Christmas decor in my apartment. Step number one? Less is more.
Choose a statement piece. If you're decorating a small space, you don't want the eye to steer in a million directions once someone walks through your front door. Instead, I like to think of a single object that I center my decor around. For me, that was always the tree—but you can let your table shine, decorate your mantle, or create a beautiful dried flower arrangement on the coffee table. Whatever you choose, stick to the plan — and resist the temptation to overdo it.
Stick to a focused color palette. Similar to tip one, it's all about creating a consistent, cohesive decor scheme. I like to pick three colors that will dominate the majority of what I choose to bring into my space. Usually, this means a neutral that I pair with two colors that sit opposite the color wheel (which explains why white, green, and red pair so well together). Or, I try to pick a theme and select three colors that evoke what I'm trying to express—this year, I'm all about brown, green, and white.
Get creative with your tree. If you're looking for Christmas decor for an apartment, you may have a hard time figuring out the condition of the tree. Don't worry, no one will make you buy one! Yes, it may seem necessary, but with space limitations, you're welcome to give it a go. Or even better - rethink it! There are plenty of tabletop options to choose from as well as creative alternatives. Find all the inspiration you need over here.
