as expected, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever It easily topped the box office this weekend with an estimated $180 million. While not quite as high as May Doctor Strange in a multiverse of madness (enter below us 200 million dollar prediction) continues to mark a strong start for the franchise's relaunch after Chadwick Boseman's tragic pass streak. It also marked the biggest November opening ever, taking down $158 million The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in 2013. Many people point out that the long run hampers the film's opening numbers, but strong reception should see this one leg up very well. The movie garnered almost universal acclaim (especially from our own JimmyO who presented it 10/10 rating.) I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call it Perfecto-mundo, a lot of the humor fails for me, but a solid 8/10. I'm not sure this game will play out in awards season the way the first did, but if I may add my two cents: Angela Bassett deserves some credit for her role in this movie. There's a scene in this movie where, if you remove all of the movie's "superhero" and watch it as a mother in mourning, it's one of the most powerful scenes I've seen in any Marvel movie (with perhaps the only exception being the funeral scene from game over). With only one Academy Award nomination under her belt What's Love Got To Do With ItI think it's time to give this immense talent well deserved and make it into the awards conversation for her rousing portrayal of the melancholy Queen Ramonda.
This opening comes well short of the first $202 million movie that opened in February 2018 on its way to a $700 million domestic gross and $1.3 billion worldwide. It doesn't look like this sequel will achieve the same international heights as the movie was officially banned in China due to strict censorship laws (read more about that at Our article here Where we cover the ban imposed by China Wakanda forever And the black Adam). With a budget of 250 million dollars, Wakanda He has little to cut before he hits the break even point. Even if you get $105 million from the original made in China, it's still well above the billion dollar mark. This guy might struggle to get to Level B, but I wouldn't be surprised if he approached him and was a solid money maker for the studio.
Comes in second place black Adam It's down 53% from last week for $8.6 million. While the movie certainly isn't the behemoth that DC and Dwayne Johnson envisioned, it's not out of mind to say that while this movie could lose money (based on its massive $200 million budget), it establishes DCEU's future for success. I think the same could have been said of him man of steel When she was first at DCEU and see how it went. Time will tell how James Gunn and Peter Safran deal with their new responsibilities as Head of DC . Heads.
Comes in third place A ticket to heaven It only lost 29% from last week's $6.1 million value. This is proof that its opening weekend isn't always a tell-tale sign of how well a movie will do at the box office. With the star power of Julia Roberts and George Clooney, a $16 million opening seemed to be on the soft side for this light-hearted romantic comedy, but word of mouth has driven this one into small drops from week to week. Add to this that the international numbers are very good with a value of around $100 million, and A ticket to heaven Prove that romantic comedies are not dead (As some claimed during the summer months.)
Rounding out the top five is another pair of powerful word of mouth. In fourth place is Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile With $3.2 million, down just 5% from last weekend. This is an incredible commentary for a movie in its sixth week of release. While the real surprise hit smiling It finally crossed the magic $100 million mark as it took home $2.3 million this weekend for a total of $102.7 million.
prey to the devil It's still stuck in the top ten, coming in at number six this weekend with just over $2 million Inisherin from Inisherin I only got a small 17% slice for a $1.7 million weekend. If you haven't had the chance to check this out yet, I highly recommend it (as does Chris Bombray who introduced it Perfect review 10/10). It's a simple story about a friendship that went wrong, but the acting is absolutely perfect. I hope all four cast members (Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Keri Condon, and Barry Keoghan) will be remembered when the Oscar nominations are announced.
Eighth and ninth place belongs to CrunchyRoll Studios One Piece Movie: Red With $1.4 million, it has lost 84% of its audience since last weekend. These movies tend to be front-loaded, so this drop isn't entirely unexpected. The good news is that the movie is already a huge money maker, setting records overseas. Strong reviews and plenty of talk about the performance by lead actress Danielle Didweiler doesn't seem to be bumping into an expected box office bump. until The tragic true story lost 67% of its audience with a cut of $618,254 over the weekend. This person may need to rely on any potential award nominations to keep them relevant over the next few weeks.
Coming in at number 10 is a movie that I have to be honest, I've never heard of it! Yeshoda Attracted $380,000 this weekend. The release continues the tradition of Indian films that are performing strongly in the North American market.
