Elton John an interview Joni Mitchell to premiere on Apple Music 1 on Saturday (November 12), and people Legend has opened up about her legacy, performing at the Newport Folk Festival and more.
After telling Sir Elton that she is going to try to release a live recording of her surprise performance At the festival this summer, Mitchell also revealed that she "had no training" for what ended up being her first concert in two decades.
"I stood up and played the guitar," John pointed out, and replied, "Yes, I should have known what I did." And I couldn't sing the key. I became an alto, I'm no longer a soprano, so I couldn't sing the song. And I thought people might feel enlightened if I played the guitar, but I love the guitar part of that song. So anyway, it was well received, which made me very happy.”
Mitchell also reflected the influence of her early music from the populist movement of the 1960s and 1970s, as well as how she compared to male singers and songwriters at the time. "In that time, I've had a lot of fire, if any," the singer said. "People thought it was very intimate. It was like Dylan coming on with electricity.
"I think this upsets the male singer-songwriters," she continued. They'll go, 'Oh no. Do we have to bear our souls like this now? I think it made people nervous. More tense than... It took this generation - they seem to be able to cope with those feelings more easily than my generation."
