Publicist Roger Neal said in a statement that the Grammy Award winner died while she was with her family. The cause of death was not immediately revealed.
“While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted to know that she is now with her daughter, Jada, and her two sisters, John and Bonnie, and at peace. She was the one who kept us all close and together for so long,” her sister Ruth, brothers Aaron and Fritz, and granddaughter Roxy McCain-Poynter said in the statement.
And Jada Poynter, the only daughter of Anita Poynter, died in 2003.
Born to the daughter of a pastor, Anita, Ruth, Bonnie, and John Poynter grew up singing at their father's church in Oakland, California.
The band's 1973 self-titled debut album included the hit song "Yes We Can Can". Best known for their hit songs including "I'm So Excited", "Slow Hand", "Neutron Dance" and "Jump (For My Love)", the singers received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994.
