As much as I appreciate the practicality of perennial plants such as high-quality artificial wreaths and garlands, there is just something special about fresh produce. The movement, the drape, and the fragrance can never be duplicated - but we sure can try!

Cedar trees and pine trees are often used interchangeably with the term "evergreen" in our part of the country. There are technically four different species of cedar trees, with many subspecies falling into each species.
True cedar trees are conifers, widely loved for their spicy scent, sturdy wood, and evergreen spiral foliage.
At the holidays, these greenery tends to speak of the warmth, scent, and beauty of the season. Interestingly, most cedar trees used commercially for holiday wreaths are actually considered "fake cedar" because they are not of a true genus of cedar trees.
The two most popular cedar species in the incense garland market are cedarwood and western red cedar. Both are native to the Pacific Northwest and help create amazing fragrance and style in your home!
Tips
- Buy the freshest cedar wreath you can find to ensure its longevity.
- Soak in water overnight before hanging.
- Use a file Anti-drying spray (also called anti-transparent) to help seal out the moisture inside.
- You can also purchase the anti-drying product as a concentrate, which can be mixed with water before soaking fresh vegetables. I found this to be less messy than a Wilt Stop spray bottle and possibly more thorough, ensuring all greenery is covered.
- Spray the cedar wreaths and wreaths every 2-3 days for more moisture.
