Lionsgate is doing some damage control today after rumors swirled online that Eli Roth had been fired for his long-awaited... Borderlands Film adaptation with Tim Miller (dead listAnd Terminator: Dark Fate) replace. Consequently final dateMiller steps in as director of the BorderlandsThe next two weeks of reshoots, but Roth was not fired. Instead, they say Roth is busy getting ready to shoot his much-anticipated holiday bomber, Thanksgivingbased on his notorious reputation Grindhouse tractor. This movie is getting ready to shoot in March which, in theory, can't be delayed if they want to get the movie out for the first time around Thanksgiving.
Handing over the baton is friendly, Deadline reports, with friends of Roth and Miller, and that Roth is still officially the film's director. In fact, I've already seen some of the footage in CinemaCon Back in April, it felt like a pretty radical adaptation, with Roth seeming to stick closely to the game's visual aesthetic. For Roth, this is a huge step into the mainstream, as it's easily his biggest project yet. While Thanksgiving Looking more up his alley, it'll be interesting to see his take on the star-studded adaptation. The film stars Kevin Hart, Edgar Ramirez, Jack Black, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Although it seems unconventional for another director to handle reshoots, it has been done before, with Tony Gilroy working on Rogue OneJames McTeigue did some reshoots invasionand then the massive last-minute reshoots of world war z, although apparently the same manager was kept for those. At least this time around, Roth appears to have handed over the baton willingly, and it could be about scheduling issues (let's not forget that Blanchett is currently in the middle of a massive prize campaign for tar).
