Neil Young He refuses to operate concert venues that use factory farms, a decision that could seriously jeopardize his ability to tour.
Young explained during an interview with Canada CBC Radio.
Factory farming is a form of industrial animal production, aimed at maximizing production and minimizing costs. It has come under intense scrutiny for practices that many people consider cruel to animals, as well as harmful to the environment. Although controversial, this practice is prevalent, with every major food service and catering company receiving at least some of their food supply from a factory farm.
Although Young—a staunch environmentalist and proponent of sustainable family farming—can take measures to make his tour as green as possible, there's not much he can do about the venue's catering contracts.
"I can handle the energy for the place, and I can clean it. I can make the PA clean, the lights clean, the electricity in the building clean. I can clean all my vehicles. I have the right fuel. I can do all of that. But the food—all those places are fueled by factory farms, said the rocker.
"I can't support that," Young continued, acknowledging that he wants "good food that has to be clean food, sustainably grown, and served in a sustainable way."
"Unless places are clean, and they operate that way, I wouldn't be there," the singer declared.
Young's last public live concert was in September 2019, though he has performed intermittently private performances since then. the smasher previously said He was avoiding getting back on the road wary of the COVID pandemic. "Things have to be under control and go one way for a while before I go out and play," he explained in December 2021.
Now, nearly a year later, it seems his concerns about factory farming may continue to keep Young from touring.

I know what's going on on this planet, what's causing it, what we're continuing to do, and I can't support buildings, organizations and companies that won't change that.
