It may be basic, but I am Just wanna grab a Starbucks Christmas cup while driving around blasting Norah Jones' holiday album.

So, when it came time to dream up the perfect dessert for all the upcoming holiday parties, I knew exactly what I wanted to make: A flourless mint chocolate brownie that infuses one of my all-time favorite desserts with classic holiday flavors.

Why I love this mint flourless chocolate brownie recipe

Let's start with a praise Flourless chocolate cake. This is her classic dessert Many Go for it. First, it only uses a handful of ingredients that I always have in my pantry. For these reasons and more, it's a great recipe to keep tucked away in my back pocket for Bread whims at the last minute.

It's also one of those rare desserts that's undeniably decadent but with a lightness that allows you to indulge without the heaviness that often comes with denser cakes. And bonus: it's natural gluten freeso your #gf friends can enjoy it!

This is a recipe that, by nature, does not contain any flour, and I add a little gluten-free baking powder to give it a little extra rise and airiness.

The best chocolate for flourless mint chocolate cake

Holiday bread begs the age-old question: What kind of chocolate do I use in this recipe? Each treat uses a different type of chocolate and honestly, it can get confusing. For this cake, you can choose your chocolate based on the end result you want.

Semisweet Chocolate Chips: going to Classic chocolate chip cookieSemisweet chocolate chips are not very sweet, but they are less bitter than some dark chocolates. Because it has a subtle sweetness and chocolate flavor, it's ideal for giving recipes a well-balanced flavor. If you're looking for a chocolatey flavor that's not too intense, semisweet chocolate chips are your friend.

Dark chocolate chips: On the other hand, dark chocolate is definitely more chocolaty. It's dark chocolate (obviously) with more bitter cocoa notes than semi-sweet. Because of that, it brings a stronger chocolate flavor to your candy. Since this cake is all about decadence, dark chocolate sure is good here.

Depending on your preference, you can use either foil. For a more advanced cocoa-infused cake, go with dark chocolate. But for a more sweet/chocolate balance, you'll want semisweet. But really, you can't go wrong here. It is chocolate after all!

How to make the perfect holiday cake

So, what makes this flourless? Mint Chocolate cake for the holidays? Well, mint shows up in two places here. There is half a teaspoon of mint extract in the cake batter itself, which doesn't sound like much, but trust me: A little mint extract goes a long way.

And second: After the cake has cooled, I scoop up clouds of airy whipped cream in the center of the cake, then scatter crushed mint, chocolate shavings, and cocoa powder over the top. Not only does it add more mint flavor, but the crushed mint gives a nice, subtle crunch and that contrasts greatly with the cream.

Service tips

Isn't it great? I usually cut this very thin for a dinner party, so a 9-inch cake will easily feed up to a 16-year-old. It also keeps great in the fridge. You can definitely make it the day before you plan to serve it and keep it chilled in the fridge, then top it with whipped cream just before serving. Eat it chilled or warmed, Mint Flourless Chocolate Cake is incredibly delicious at any temperature, making it a truly perfect dessert for a get-together.
