There are many traits that can classify a woman as a male fashion icon, and the simple act of adopting tailored suits or street fashion is just one of them. I advise Princess Dianawho wore tracksuits and blazers with the same exacting precision as her evening gown, or Rihannawhich makes anything look twenty times more graceful than anyone else wearing it, or Bella Hadid, whose downtown antics have led many of the housemates to wonder where they could, in fact, get him. There's another thing - something a little confusing, a little bit frizzante— about the way these women dress, making their personal style seem appropriate or attractive to men.
By some measures, it's a matter of trust. It's also true that looser, freer, and more relaxed silhouettes tend to feel one-size-fits-all in more ways than one.
Perhaps, then, one such all-encompassing quality is bliss.

Think Dame Emma Thompson, who, like the women above, can do more than just wear an evening dress, but also tends to look dreadful when it comes to her casual attire. She became a lady in a green suit and Stan Smith. She performed at the Golden Globes barefoot, holding a martini. She loves cool sneakers and an oversized, whimsical T-shirt. The British actress has owned herself up not to be seen as a traditional fashion icon, though she comfortably accepts that concept. She once said, "At my first Academy Awards, a fashion reporter said, as I passed the red carpet, 'God love her, she always looks so slick in anything.'" Daily Mail. “And I made an effort! I wore that as a badge of honor.”
And it all seems to be getting truer as Thompson gets older, who, in the most ideal scenario, would make just about anyone feel good, free, and comfortable. Last Monday, while attending a London screening of Roald Dahl's photography Musical MatildaThere was something particularly flattering about how she wore an oversized black denim jacket by Balenciaga, white wide-leg jeans, and metallic Stella McCartney sneakers. (in MatildaThompson plays the evil headmistress, Mrs. Trunchbull, played by Pam Ferris in the 1996 film version, may also have been kind of Casual menswear icon.) The costume allowed for a level of comfort and ease that made it seem natural for her to walk the rug up and down with a big smile. Red carpet mischief... swag ... comfortable wear ... not just for boys anymore!
