According to the documents he obtained AllHipHop On Thursday (Dec 29), Peter Kelly claimed wrongful termination after being let go from the company he was employed for 21 years.
Kelly claims he was let go in May 2021 after he was heard to say "n-gga" while discussing DMX on the company phone. As a union member, he said the termination was a "violation of the National Labor Relations Act" and he wanted damages.
This action also arises from Plaintiff, Defendant Communications Workers of America, AFL-CIO's breach of the duty to provide fair representation, and Plaintiff's employer, Defendant Verizon New York ("Verizon") of their collective bargaining agreement. stated in the document.
The docs explain that the incident occurred in April 2021 - when Kelly received a personal call on his work phone during his lunch break.
“While discussing DMX's music, Plaintiff used 'n####', a word commonly used by the artist himself in his lyrics,” the docs continue. “Unbeknownst to the plaintiff, he inadvertently answered a call on his company’s cell phone, and a Verizon employee who listened to his own call for approximately 45 seconds heard him say the word ‘n-gga.’”
After an investigation, Kelly was fired after less than a month for "violating Verizon's discrimination and harassment policy."
Kelly and his attorney feel word is flying all the time at work and he is being unfairly singled out.
Despite this zero-tolerance policy, some employees routinely use words like 'b####', 'c###', 'n-gger', 'n-gga', and 's ###' in place of Work, "documentation status. “This language is used in the presence of management level employees, but when it is used by a female employee, African American employee, and/or Hispanic employee, it is not reprimanded or disciplined in any way.”
This isn't the first time a white fan has found themselves in hot water for using the n-word for their favorite rapper.

Back in August, A.J A Wu-Tang Clan fan in the UK has been fined £500 for using the n-word while tapping the lyrics of the group's first single "Protect Ya Neck".
The 25-year-old Kyle Siegel was recording himself singing the 1993 song to TikTok while standing in a women's bathroom stall — unknowingly with a mixed-race woman in the booth next to him who was "deeply shocked" by the incident.
While the defense said there were some issues with "artistic liberty," it noted that Siegel was not "a person of color." He added that Sigel had accepted to "cross the line" but did not intend to hurt anyone with his actions.
