Actor Dave Bautista has been very open about the fact that the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 It will be the last time he will play Drax the Destroyer. In a recent interview with GQBautista provided more details on why he walked away from the role.
Speaking as part of a recent profile on Bautista, the actor recounted how he got the role, and how excited he was that he ended up standing on the road and crying about it. "I had to stop because I was crying so hard," Bautista said. "I turned back and walked into my house shivering to tell my wife I'd got the part, and we were just standing there in awe."
However, despite Bautista's immense love for the character, he does feel some "relief" that he did with the character. According to Bautista, it wasn't always easy to play the role, because the make-up process to become Drax was arduous. Bautista also talked about not being sure if he wanted Drax to be the only thing he was known for.
“I am so grateful to Drax. I love him.” "But there is relief [that it’s over]. It wasn't all fun. It was difficult to play this role. The makeup process was hitting me. And I don't know if I want Drax to be my heritage — it's a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic things."
In previous discussions about the character, Bautista has also talked about how other factors, including his age, made him come to the decision he made with Drax. In a series of tweets from 2021, Bautista joked that his muscles would soon start to sag, and he couldn't play the character anymore.
"Drax isn't going anywhere," Bautista said. Twitter. "He just wouldn't be played by that dude!" by the time [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3] Come out I'll be 54 years old for gods sake! I expect everything will start to sag any second now.”
